High Tea With A Vietnamese Twist

High Tea With A Vietnamese Twist

Bill Bensley's lush and lavish Intercontinental's Sun Peninsula Resort in Danang was a true indulgence en route to nearby Hoi An. Even before entering the gates, the ocean views from the Son Tra Peninsula grow more magnificent every second during the uphill drive. Every detail of the sweeping resort evokes luxury from the moment of arrival.

Having booked the stay through Mr & Mrs Smith, one of the included extras was Vietnamese High Tea at the resort's Citron Restaurant, where all outdoor seating looks out over the spectacular curve of the coastline. With a choice between Traditional English High Tea and Vietnamese High Tea, we chose the latter, accompanied by a steaming pot of freshly brewed jasmine tea. It was a welcome change of pace after the morning's flight from Ho Chi Minh City. The spread on a three-tiered tray was a vibrant blend of sweet and savory from East and West- macarons and scones mixed in with traditional Vietnamese sweets, spring rolls, and mini Banh Mi's.

All the vibrant colors of the food blended harmoniously with the surroundings and design details.

To provide each area and room with expansive views, the property is terraced out at four levels, each one representing the a part of the earth - Heaven, Sky, Earth, and Sea. It seemed a bit overwhelming at first glance, but getting around and exploring the resort is quite manageable and enjoyable - there are golf carts available just a call away to whisk you from your room to the activity of your choice. Also, there is a tram just outside the restaurant that runs continuously down to the beach and back but on a nice sunny day, it may be preferable to take a leisurely stroll downhill.

high tea in Georgetown

High tea at the Eastern & Oriental Hotel in Georgetown, Penang is a destination in itself. One of the swankiest spots on the island, this luxurious tradition is steeped in the island's colonial history.

The sumptuous room sets the stage for a delicious afternoon experience.

All of the details are impeccable - from the smooth service to the fine china.

With pages of loose leaf teas to choose from and carefully constructed sandwiches, sitting down for a sip makes time feel still. It is the perfect moment to savor the flavor of ceylon or jasmine,  reflecting on your travels or plan your next journey, cocooned away from the bustle of Georgetown.

It's all in the details - 1885 is the year the E&O Hotel was established  by the Sarkies Brothers
